Kutsinta
Kutsinta is a Filipino steamed rice cake made with rice flour and brown sugar. It has a chewy texture and is often enjoyed as a snack or dessert.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
- Annatto water - 1/4 cup
- Water - 1 1/2 cups
- Lye water - 1/2 teaspoon
- Brown sugar - 3/4 cup
- Rice flour - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- In a mixing bowl, combine rice flour and brown sugar.
- Add lye water and water to the mixture. Mix well until smooth.
- Add annatto water to give the kutsinta its signature orange color. Mix well.
- Prepare a steamer and grease the molds with oil.
- Pour the kutsinta mixture into the molds, filling them about 3/4 full.
- Steam the kutsinta for about 20-25 minutes or until set and firm.
- Remove the molds from the steamer and let the kutsinta cool for a few minutes.
- Once cooled, remove the kutsinta from the molds and serve with grated coconut on top.
