Let's Get Started

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. Roll out one sheet of puff pastry and place it on a baking sheet. Prick the pastry with a fork to prevent it from puffing up too much.
  3. Bake the puff pastry for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the oven and let it cool completely.
  4. In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it starts to simmer.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks until well combined.
  6. Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to prevent curdling.
  7. Pour the mixture back into the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens and comes to a boil.
  8. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Let the custard cool completely.
  9. Once the puff pastry and custard are cooled, spread a layer of custard over the first sheet of puff pastry.
  10. Place the second sheet of puff pastry on top of the custard layer.
  11. Spread another layer of custard over the second sheet of puff pastry.
  12. Top with whipped cream and dust with powdered sugar.
  13. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
  14. Slice into squares and serve chilled.
