Kremówka
Kremówka, also known as Napoleonka, is a delicious Polish pastry made with layers of puff pastry and a creamy vanilla custard filling.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Powdered sugar - For dusting
- Whipped cream - 1 cup
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Egg yolks - 4
- Cornstarch - 1/4 cup
- Sugar - 1/2 cup
- Milk - 2 cups
- Puff pastry - 2 sheets
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- Roll out one sheet of puff pastry and place it on a baking sheet. Prick the pastry with a fork to prevent it from puffing up too much.
- Bake the puff pastry for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the oven and let it cool completely.
- In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it starts to simmer.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks until well combined.
- Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to prevent curdling.
- Pour the mixture back into the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens and comes to a boil.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Let the custard cool completely.
- Once the puff pastry and custard are cooled, spread a layer of custard over the first sheet of puff pastry.
- Place the second sheet of puff pastry on top of the custard layer.
- Spread another layer of custard over the second sheet of puff pastry.
- Top with whipped cream and dust with powdered sugar.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
- Slice into squares and serve chilled.
