Khoresh E Bamieh
Khoresh-e-Bamieh is a delicious Iranian stew made with okra, beef, and a flavorful tomato-based sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Cooked rice - For serving
- Fresh cilantro - 1/4 cup, chopped
- Lemon juice - 2 tablespoons
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cumin - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric - 1 teaspoon
- Tomatoes - 2 large, diced
- Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1 large, chopped
- Beef stew meat - 1 pound, cubed
- Okra - 1 pound, trimmed and halved
Let's Get Started
- Heat some oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until golden brown.
- Add the beef stew meat and cook until browned on all sides.
- Stir in the tomato paste, diced tomatoes, turmeric, cumin, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Cook for a few minutes.
- Add enough water to cover the ingredients. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 1 hour, or until the beef is tender.
- Add the okra to the pot and cook for an additional 30 minutes, or until the okra is cooked through.
- Stir in the lemon juice and fresh cilantro.
- Serve the khoresh-e-bamieh over cooked rice.
