Khao Man Gai
Khao Man Gai is a popular Thai dish consisting of poached chicken served with fragrant rice and a flavorful sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Lime - 1, cut into wedges
- Green onions - 2, chopped
- Cilantro - 1/4 cup, chopped
- Cucumber - 1, sliced
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Fish sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Soy sauce - 1/4 cup
- Chicken broth - 4 cups
- Ginger - 1-inch piece, grated
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Jasmine rice - 2 cups
- Chicken - 1 whole, about 3-4 pounds
Let's Get Started
- In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add the whole chicken and cook for about 30-40 minutes, or until fully cooked. Remove the chicken from the pot and let it cool. Once cooled, shred the chicken meat and set aside.
- In a separate pot, rinse the jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain the rice and set aside.
- In a large saucepan, heat some oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, and cook until fragrant.
- Add the drained rice to the saucepan and stir to coat the rice with the garlic and ginger.
- Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let the rice cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until all the liquid is absorbed and the rice is cooked.
- In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, fish sauce, and sugar to make the sauce.
- To serve, place a portion of the cooked rice on a plate. Top with shredded chicken, cucumber slices, chopped cilantro, and green onions. Drizzle the sauce over the dish.
- Garnish with lime wedges and serve hot.
