Kai Paloe
Kai Paloe is a traditional Thai dish that combines tender pork and boiled eggs in a rich, five-spice-infused broth.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Water - 4 cups
- Cinnamon stick - 1
- Star anise - 2
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Chinese five-spice powder - 1 tablespoon
- Sugar - 1/4 cup
- Soy sauce - 1/2 cup
- Eggs - 6, hard-boiled and peeled
- Pork belly - 500 grams, cut into chunks
Let's Get Started
- In a large pot, combine the pork belly, soy sauce, sugar, five-spice powder, garlic, star anise, and cinnamon stick.
- Add the water and bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 30 minutes.
- Add the hard-boiled eggs to the pot and continue to simmer for another 30 minutes, until the pork is tender and the flavors are well combined.
- Serve the stew hot, with rice on the side if desired.
