Jibarito Sandwich
The Jibarito is a sandwich made with flattened, fried green plantains instead of bread, filled with steak, cheese, lettuce and tomato.
Ingredients - Serves 2
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Oil - For frying
- Mayonnaise - To taste
- Cheese - 4 slices
- Tomato - 1, sliced
- Lettuce - 1 cup, shredded
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Steak - 1/2 pound, thinly sliced
- Green plantains - 2
Let's Get Started
- Peel the plantains and cut them in half. Flatten each half with a kitchen mallet.
- Heat the oil in a frying pan and fry the plantains until they are golden and crispy. Set them aside on a paper towel to drain.
- Season the steak with the garlic, salt, and pepper. Cook it in the same pan until it is done to your liking.
- Spread mayonnaise on one side of each plantain. Place the steak, cheese, lettuce, and tomato on top. Cover with the other half of the plantain.
- Serve the Jibarito sandwich hot.
