Jibarito
The Jibarito is a sandwich made with flattened, fried green plantains instead of bread, filled with steak, cheese, lettuce and tomato.
Ingredients - Serves 2
- Oil - For frying
- Mayonnaise - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Tomato - 1, sliced
- Lettuce - 4 leaves
- Cheese - 4 slices
- Steak - 1/2 pound
- Green plantains - 2
Let's Get Started
- Peel the plantains and cut them in half. Flatten each half with a kitchen mallet.
- Heat the oil in a frying pan and fry the plantains until they are golden and crispy. Remove and set aside.
- Season the steak with salt, pepper and the minced garlic. Fry in the same oil until it is cooked to your liking.
- Spread mayonnaise on one side of each plantain. Place the steak, cheese, lettuce and tomato on top, then cover with the other plantain half.
- Serve immediately.
