Jalebi
Jalebi is a popular sweet dish in India, made by deep-frying a wheat flour batter in pretzel or circular shapes, which are then soaked in sugar syrup.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Vegetable oil or ghee - For deep frying
- Cardamom powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Saffron strands - A few
- Water - 1 cup
- Sugar - 2 cups
- Yogurt - 2 tablespoons
- Maida (all purpose flour) - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- In a bowl, mix the flour and yogurt together to make a thick batter. Let it ferment for about 8-10 hours.
- Prepare the sugar syrup by boiling sugar and water together. Add saffron, lemon juice and cardamom powder to it.
- Heat oil in a pan and pour the batter in a circular motion to make a coil shape. Deep fry these until they become crispy and golden.
- Drain and soak the fried coils in sugar syrup for 2-3 minutes.
- Take them out of syrup and serve hot.
