Italian Meatball Subs
Delicious homemade Italian meatball subs with marinara sauce and melted cheese.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Fresh basil - For garnish
- Mozzarella cheese - 1 cup, shredded
- Sub rolls - 4
- Marinara sauce - 2 cups
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Italian seasoning - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Egg - 1
- Parmesan cheese - 1/4 cup, grated
- Breadcrumbs - 1/2 cup
- Ground beef - 1 pound
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
- Place the meatballs on a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes, or until cooked through.
- In a saucepan, heat the marinara sauce over medium heat.
- Add the cooked meatballs to the marinara sauce and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Slice the sub rolls lengthwise, without cutting all the way through.
- Place the meatballs and sauce inside the sub rolls.
- Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Bake the subs in the oven for 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh basil before serving.
