Indian Tandoori Naan
Tandoori Naan is a popular Indian bread made with all-purpose flour, yogurt, and cooked in a tandoor or oven.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Fresh cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Butter - 2 tablespoons, melted
- Baking powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Active dry yeast - 2 teaspoons
- Warm water - 1/2 cup
- Yogurt - 1/2 cup
- All-purpose flour - 3 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder.
- Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the yeast mixture and yogurt.
- Mix well until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 500°F (260°C) or the highest temperature your oven can reach.
- Divide the dough into 6 equal portions and roll each portion into an oval or round shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Place the rolled naan on a baking sheet or pizza stone and brush the tops with melted butter and minced garlic.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes until puffed up and lightly golden.
- Remove from the oven and brush with more melted butter. Sprinkle with chopped cilantro.
- Serve hot and enjoy with your favorite Indian curries or dips.
