Indian Naan
Naan is a popular Indian bread that is soft, fluffy, and perfect for dipping in curries or enjoying on its own.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Butter - 2 tablespoons, melted
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Active dry yeast - 2 teaspoons
- Warm water - 1/2 cup
- Yogurt - 1/2 cup
- All-purpose flour - 3 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes, or until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture, yogurt, and vegetable oil.
- Mix the ingredients together until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
- Divide the dough into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a circle or oval shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Place the naan on the hot skillet and cook for about 1 minute, or until bubbles start to form on the surface. Flip the naan and cook for another minute on the other side.
- Remove the naan from the skillet and brush with melted butter. Sprinkle with minced garlic and chopped cilantro.
- Repeat the process with the remaining dough portions.
- Serve the naan warm and enjoy!
