Hweh
Hweh is a traditional Ghanaian dish made with raw fish and a spicy marinade.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Plantain chips - For serving
- Avocado - 1, sliced (for serving)
- Black pepper - To taste
- Salt - To taste
- Cilantro - 1/4 cup, chopped
- Scotch bonnet pepper - 1, seeded and minced
- Tomato - 1 medium, diced
- Red onion - 1 small, thinly sliced
- Lime juice - 1/4 cup
- Fresh fish fillets - 1 pound
Let's Get Started
- Rinse the fish fillets under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
- Cut the fish into bite-sized pieces and place in a bowl.
- Add the lime juice to the bowl and toss to coat the fish. Let it marinate for 10 minutes.
- Add the red onion, tomato, scotch bonnet pepper, and cilantro to the bowl with the fish.
- Season with salt and black pepper, then gently toss everything together.
- Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld.
- Serve the hweh with sliced avocado and plantain chips.
