Hunan Beef
Hunan Beef is a hot and spicy dish from the Hunan Province in China. It's made with thinly sliced beef, bell peppers, and dried chili peppers.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
- Bell peppers - 2, sliced
- Dried chili peppers - 6
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons
- Beef flank steak - 1 pound, thinly sliced
Let's Get Started
- In a bowl, mix the beef with the cornstarch and soy sauce. Let it marinate for 15 minutes.
- Heat the oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat.
- Add the garlic and dried chili peppers and stir-fry for 30 seconds.
- Add the beef and stir-fry until it's no longer pink, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the bell peppers and stir-fry for another 2 minutes.
- In a small bowl, mix together the vinegar, sugar, and salt. Pour this sauce over the beef and peppers.
- Stir well to combine and cook for another 2 minutes, until the sauce has thickened.
- Serve the Hunan Beef hot with steamed rice.
