Hobbang
Hobbang, also known as Korean steamed buns, are fluffy and filled with a savory meat and vegetable filling.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Green onions - 2, finely chopped
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon, toasted
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Carrot - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Ground pork - 1/2 pound
- Warm water - 1 cup
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Sugar - 2 tablespoons
- Active dry yeast - 2 teaspoons
- All-purpose flour - 3 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
- Gradually add the warm water and knead until a smooth dough forms.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- In a skillet, cook the ground pork over medium heat until browned. Add the onion, carrot, and garlic, and cook until the vegetables are tender.
- In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, black pepper, sesame seeds, and green onions. Add this mixture to the skillet and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
- Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and roll each portion into a circle.
- Place a spoonful of the filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the edges of the dough over the filling and pinch to seal.
- Place the filled buns on a steamer basket lined with parchment paper. Steam for 15-20 minutes, or until the buns are cooked through and fluffy.
