Hawawshi
Hawawshi is a popular Egyptian street food made with spiced ground meat stuffed in pita bread and baked to perfection.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Tahini sauce - 1/4 cup
- Lettuce - 1 cup, shredded
- Tomato - 1, sliced
- Pita bread - 4 rounds
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Paprika - 1 teaspoon
- Coriander - 1 teaspoon
- Cumin - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Green bell pepper - 1, finely chopped
- Onion - 1 large, finely chopped
- Ground beef - 500 grams
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, chopped onion, green bell pepper, minced garlic, cumin, coriander, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- Cut the pita bread rounds in half to form pockets.
- Stuff each pita pocket with the ground beef mixture, pressing it down gently to fill the entire pocket.
- Place the stuffed pitas on a baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the meat is cooked through and the pita bread is crispy.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.
- Open each hawawshi pocket and fill with sliced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and a drizzle of tahini sauce.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
