Gulasch
Gulasch is a hearty stew of meat and vegetables, typically seasoned with paprika and other spices. Originating from Hungary, it's a popular meal in Central Europe.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Potatoes - 4, cubed
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Red wine - 1 cup
- Beef broth - 4 cups
- Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
- Caraway seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Paprika - 2 tablespoons
- Carrots - 2, chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onions - 2 large, chopped
- Beef - 1 kg, cubed
Let's Get Started
- Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the beef and brown on all sides. Remove from the pot and set aside.
- In the same pot, add the onions, garlic, carrots, paprika, and caraway seeds. Cook until the onions are soft and golden.
- Add the tomato paste and stir well to combine.
- Return the beef to the pot. Add the beef broth, red wine, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 1 hour.
- Add the potatoes to the pot and continue to simmer for another hour, or until the beef and potatoes are tender.
- Adjust the seasoning if necessary, then serve the gulasch hot with a side of bread.
