Gulab Jamun
Gulab Jamun is a popular Indian sweet made from milk solids and soaked in a sweet syrup.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Oil - for frying
- Saffron strands - few strands
- Rose water - 1 teaspoon
- Water - 1 cup
- Sugar - 1 cup
- Cardamom powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Milk - 1/4 cup
- Ghee - 2 tablespoons
- Baking powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 1/4 cup
- Milk powder - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- In a mixing bowl, combine the milk powder, all-purpose flour, and baking powder.
- Add ghee and mix well to form a crumbly texture.
- Gradually add milk and knead the mixture into a soft dough.
- Divide the dough into small portions and roll them into smooth balls.
- In a deep pan, heat oil over medium heat.
- Fry the dough balls until golden brown and cooked through.
- In a separate saucepan, combine sugar and water to make the syrup.
- Bring the syrup to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Add cardamom powder, rose water, and saffron strands to the syrup.
- Remove the fried dough balls from the oil and immediately transfer them to the syrup.
- Allow the gulab jamuns to soak in the syrup for at least 30 minutes before serving.
- Serve warm or at room temperature, garnished with chopped nuts if desired.
