Bhatura
Bhatura is a popular North Indian bread made with all-purpose flour. It is often eaten with chole (chickpea curry).
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Oil - For deep frying
- Water - As required
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Baking soda - 1/4 teaspoon
- Baking powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Yogurt - 1/2 cup
- All-purpose flour - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt.
- Add the yogurt and mix well.
- Gradually add water and knead into a soft dough.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 2 hours.
- Divide the dough into equal portions and roll each portion into a ball.
- Flatten the balls and roll them out into a circular shape.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan.
- Fry the bhaturas one at a time, pressing gently with a slotted spoon until they puff up.
- Flip the bhatura and fry until it turns golden brown on both sides.
- Drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Serve hot with chole or any curry of your choice.
