Bhatura
Bhatura is a popular North Indian bread that is often enjoyed with chole or chickpea curry. It is a leavened fried bread that puffs up into a lightly browned, soft, and fluffy treat.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Oil - For deep frying
- Water - As needed
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Baking soda - 1/2 teaspoon
- Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
- Yogurt - 1 cup
- All-purpose flour - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt.
- Add the yogurt to the flour mixture and mix well.
- Gradually add water and knead into a soft dough. Cover the dough and let it rest for at least 2 hours.
- After the resting time, divide the dough into equal-sized balls.
- Roll out each ball into a circular shape using a rolling pin.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan. Once the oil is hot, carefully slide the rolled dough into the oil.
- Fry the bhatura on medium heat until it puffs up and turns golden brown on both sides.
- Remove the bhatura from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with chole or any curry of your choice.
