Let's Get Started

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes, or until the yeast is foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Stir until a dough forms, then turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  6. Divide the dough into small pieces and roll each piece into a thin stick.
  7. Place the sticks on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
