Greek Gyros with Tzatziki
These Greek gyros are made with marinated grilled meat, wrapped in warm pita bread, and served with homemade tzatziki sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Fresh dill - 1 tablespoon, chopped
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Cucumber - 1/2, grated and squeezed
- Greek yogurt - 1 cup
- For the tzatziki sauce: -
- Fresh parsley - 1/4 cup, chopped
- Cucumber - 1, thinly sliced
- Red onion - 1, thinly sliced
- Tomatoes - 2, sliced
- Pita bread - 4 rounds
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Dried oregano - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Lemon juice - 2 tablespoons
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Lamb shoulder - 1 lb, thinly sliced
- Boneless chicken thighs - 1 lb
Let's Get Started
- In a bowl, combine the olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Add the chicken thighs and lamb slices, and marinate for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Grill the marinated chicken and lamb for about 5-6 minutes per side, or until cooked through.
- Remove the meat from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes. Slice the chicken and lamb into thin strips.
- To make the tzatziki sauce, combine the Greek yogurt, grated and squeezed cucumber, minced garlic, lemon juice, chopped fresh dill, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Mix well.
- Warm the pita bread rounds on the grill or in a pan.
- Spread a generous amount of tzatziki sauce on each pita bread round.
- Top with sliced chicken and lamb, tomatoes, red onion, cucumber, and fresh parsley.
- Fold the pita bread in half and serve immediately.
