Ghee Rice with Basmati Rice
Ghee rice is a fragrant and flavorful rice dish made with basmati rice and clarified butter (ghee). It is a popular dish in Indian cuisine.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Raisins - 1/4 cup, fried
- Cashews - 1/4 cup, fried
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Water - 4 cups
- Bay leaf - 1
- Cardamom pods - 4
- Cloves - 4
- Cinnamon stick - 1
- Onion - 1 large, thinly sliced
- Ghee - 4 tablespoons
- Basmati rice - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- Wash the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for 30 minutes, then drain.
- Heat ghee in a large pot over medium heat. Add the sliced onions, cinnamon stick, cloves, cardamom pods, and bay leaf. Sauté until the onions are golden brown.
- Add the drained basmati rice to the pot and sauté for 2-3 minutes, stirring gently to coat the rice with ghee.
- Add water and salt to the pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and the water is absorbed.
- Remove the pot from heat and let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork.
- Garnish with fried cashews, fried raisins, and chopped cilantro.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
