Ghaliyeh Mahi
Ghaliyeh Mahi is a traditional Iranian fish stew made with herbs, spices, and fish.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Water - 2 cups
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Fresh parsley - 1/2 cup, chopped
- Fresh cilantro - 1/2 cup, chopped
- Lemon juice - 2 tablespoons
- Ground cumin - 1 teaspoon
- Ground coriander - 1 teaspoon
- Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric - 1 teaspoon
- Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1 large, finely chopped
- Fish fillets - 4 pieces
Let's Get Started
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion is golden brown.
- Add the tomato paste, turmeric, red chili powder, ground coriander, and ground cumin. Cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Add the fish fillets to the pot and gently stir to coat them with the spice mixture.
- Pour in the water and lemon juice. Season with salt and pepper.
- Cover the pot and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and tender.
- Stir in the chopped cilantro and parsley. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- Serve the Ghaliyeh Mahi hot with steamed rice or bread.
