Fish Bobotie
Fish Bobotie is a delicious and unique South African dish made with fish, bread, milk, and spices, topped with a golden custard crust.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Bay leaves - 2
- Eggs - 2
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Turmeric - 1 teaspoon
- Curry powder - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1, finely chopped
- Milk - 1 cup
- Bread - 2 slices
- White fish fillets - 500 grams
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Soak the bread in half the milk and set aside.
- In a pan, sauté the onion and garlic until soft. Add the curry powder and turmeric and cook for another minute.
- Add the fish, lemon juice, salt, and pepper to the pan and cook until the fish is done. Remove from heat.
- Squeeze out the milk from the bread and mix the bread with the fish mixture.
- Spread the mixture in a greased baking dish.
- Beat the eggs with the remaining milk and pour over the fish mixture. Place the bay leaves on top.
- Bake for about 45 minutes, or until the egg mixture has set and the top is golden brown.
