Faworki
Faworki, also known as Angel Wings, are a traditional Polish pastry made of thin, crispy dough that is deep-fried and dusted with powdered sugar.
Ingredients - Serves 12
- Powdered sugar - For dusting
- Vegetable oil - For frying
- Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Sour cream - 2 tablespoons
- Granulated sugar - 2 tablespoons
- Egg yolks - 2
- All-purpose flour - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, egg yolks, sugar, sour cream, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until a dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Divide the dough into two equal portions and cover with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rest for 15 minutes.
- On a floured surface, roll out one portion of the dough into a thin sheet, about 1/8 inch thick.
- Using a sharp knife or a pastry wheel, cut the dough into strips, about 1 inch wide and 4 inches long. Make a small slit in the center of each strip and pull one end through to create a twisted shape.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Carefully drop a few faworki into the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove the faworki from the oil using a slotted spoon and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Repeat the frying process with the remaining dough strips.
- Once the faworki have cooled slightly, dust them generously with powdered sugar.
- Serve the faworki as a delightful sweet treat!
