Eomuk
Eomuk, also known as Korean fish cake, is a popular street food in Korea. It is made from ground fish and various ingredients, and has a chewy texture with a savory flavor.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Water - 1 cup
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Green onion - 2 stalks, finely chopped
- Carrot - 1 small, finely chopped
- Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- Potato starch - 2 tablespoons
- White fish fillets - 500g
Let's Get Started
- In a food processor, blend the white fish fillets until smooth.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground fish, potato starch, chopped onion, carrot, green onion, minced garlic, soy sauce, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
- Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat.
- Take a small portion of the fish mixture and shape it into a flat oval shape. Repeat with the remaining mixture.
- Place the fish cakes in the heated pan and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden brown.
- Pour water into the pan, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes to allow the fish cakes to cook through.
- Remove the lid and continue cooking for another 5 minutes, or until the water has evaporated and the fish cakes are slightly caramelized.
- Serve hot as an appetizer or snack.
