Empadão de Palmito
Empadão de Palmito is a traditional Brazilian pie filled with a creamy heart of palm filling. It's a delicious main course or appetizer.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Cream - 1/2 cup
- Tomatoes - 2, chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1, chopped
- Heart of palm - 2 cans, drained and chopped
- Eggs - 2
- Flour - 3 cups
- Butter - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, mix the butter, flour, and eggs until a dough forms. Let it rest for 30 minutes.
- In a pan, sauté the onion and garlic until golden. Add the heart of palm, tomatoes, cream, salt, and pepper. Cook until the mixture thickens.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
- Roll out half of the dough and use it to line a pie dish. Fill with the heart of palm mixture.
- Roll out the remaining dough and cover the pie. Brush with a beaten egg.
- Bake for 40 minutes, or until the crust is golden.
