Egg Tart
A classic Chinese dessert, these egg tarts have a flaky crust and a custard-like filling.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Granulated sugar - 1/2 cup
- Whole milk - 1 cup
- Eggs - 3
- Ice water - 2 tablespoons
- Unsalted butter - 1/2 cup, cold and cubed
- All-purpose flour - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the flour and butter. Use your fingers to rub the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add the ice water and stir until the dough comes together. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough and cut out circles. Press these circles into a muffin tin.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, and vanilla extract. Pour this mixture into the tart shells.
- Bake for 20 minutes, or until the filling is set and the crust is golden. Allow to cool before serving.
