Ingredients - Serves 4

Let's Get Started

  1. Wash the toor dal and pressure cook it with enough water for 3-4 whistles. Once the pressure releases, mash the dal and set it aside.
  2. Soak the tamarind in warm water for 10 minutes, then squeeze out the juice and discard the pulp.
  3. In a pan, add the drumsticks, tamarind juice, sambar powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida, salt, and water. Cook until the drumsticks are soft.
  4. Add the mashed dal to the pan and mix well. Let it simmer for a few minutes.
  5. In another pan, heat the oil and add the mustard seeds. Once they start to splutter, add the dry red chillies and curry leaves.
  6. Pour this tempering over the sambar and mix well.
  7. Serve the Drumstick Sambar hot with rice or idli.
