Croquetas Caseras
These homemade Spanish croquettes are creamy on the inside and crispy on the outside. They are a popular tapas dish in Spain.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Olive oil - For frying
- Breadcrumbs - 100 grams
- Eggs - 2, beaten
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Nutmeg - A pinch
- Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- Cooked ham - 100 grams, finely chopped
- Milk - 500 ml
- Flour - 50 grams
- Butter - 50 grams
Let's Get Started
- Melt the butter in a pan over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until soft.
- Add the flour and cook for a couple of minutes, stirring constantly.
- Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.
- Add the chopped ham, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Cook for a few more minutes, then remove from heat and let cool.
- Once the mixture is cool, shape it into small cylinders.
- Dip each croquette into the beaten eggs, then roll in the breadcrumbs.
- Heat the olive oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Fry the croquettes until golden brown on all sides.
- Drain on paper towels and serve hot.
