Chili Cheese Frito Mac and Cheese
A delicious and hearty dish that combines the flavors of chili, cheese, Fritos, and macaroni for a comforting and satisfying meal.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Fritos - 1 bag (9.25 oz)
- Flour - 2 tablespoons
- Butter - 2 tablespoons
- Milk - 1 cup
- Cheddar cheese - 2 cups, shredded
- Tomato sauce - 1 can (15 oz)
- Chili powder - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1, chopped
- Ground beef - 1 lb
- Macaroni - 2 cups, uncooked
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a baking dish.
- Cook the macaroni according to the package instructions, then drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until the beef is no longer pink. Drain the fat.
- Stir in the chili powder and tomato sauce, then simmer for 5 minutes.
- In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour to make a roux, then gradually whisk in the milk. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until the sauce has thickened.
- Remove the sauce from the heat, then stir in 1 cup of the cheese until melted. Combine the cheese sauce with the macaroni.
- Spread half of the macaroni in the prepared baking dish, then top with half of the beef mixture and half of the remaining cheese. Repeat the layers, then top with the Fritos.
- Bake for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the Fritos are golden.
