Chicken Shawarma
Chicken shawarma is a flavorful Middle Eastern dish made with marinated chicken, spices, and served with pita bread and tahini sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Red onion - 1/2, thinly sliced
- Cucumber - 1, sliced
- Tomatoes - 2, sliced
- Lettuce - 1 cup, shredded
- Tahini sauce - 1/2 cup
- Pita bread - 4 pieces
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Cayenne pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Turmeric - 1/2 teaspoon
- Paprika - 1 teaspoon
- Cumin - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Lemon juice - 2 tablespoons
- Yogurt - 1/2 cup
- Chicken thighs - 1.5 lbs, boneless and skinless
Let's Get Started
- In a bowl, combine yogurt, lemon juice, minced garlic, cumin, paprika, turmeric, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper to make the marinade.
- Add the chicken thighs to the marinade and mix well to coat. Let it marinate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
- Preheat the grill or a skillet over medium-high heat.
- Cook the marinated chicken thighs for about 5-6 minutes per side, or until cooked through and slightly charred.
- Remove the chicken from the heat and let it rest for a few minutes. Then, slice it into thin strips.
- Warm the pita bread in a toaster or on the grill for a few seconds on each side.
- Spread tahini sauce on each pita bread.
- Top with shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, cucumber, and red onion.
- Add the sliced chicken on top of the vegetables.
- Fold the pita bread in half and serve hot.
