Chanasan Makh
Chanasan Makh is a delicious Indian dish made with chickpeas cooked in a creamy tomato and cashew sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Water - 1/2 cup
- Cooking oil - 2 tablespoons
- Fresh cilantro - For garnish
- Salt - To taste
- Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
- Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Green chili - 1, finely chopped
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1-inch piece, grated
- Cashews - 1/4 cup, soaked
- Tomatoes - 2 medium, pureed
- Onion - 1 large, finely chopped
- Chickpeas - 2 cups, cooked
Let's Get Started
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add the grated ginger, minced garlic, and chopped green chili. Sauté for another minute.
- Add the pureed tomatoes and cook until the oil separates from the masala.
- In a blender, blend the soaked cashews with water to make a smooth paste.
- Add the cashew paste to the pan and mix well.
- Add the turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well and cook for a few minutes.
- Add the cooked chickpeas and mix well to coat them with the masala.
- Add water and simmer for 10-15 minutes, until the gravy thickens.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.
