Chana Masala
A flavorful and hearty Indian dish made with chickpeas in a spicy tomato sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Fresh cilantro - For garnish
- Salt - To taste
- Chickpeas - 2 cans (15 ounces each), drained and rinsed
- Canned tomatoes - 1 can (14 ounces)
- Cayenne pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Turmeric - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cumin - 1 teaspoon
- Garam masala - 1 tablespoon
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1 large, finely chopped
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
Let's Get Started
- Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
- Add the onion and cook until it starts to soften, about 5 minutes.
- Add the garlic and ginger and cook for another minute.
- Add the garam masala, cumin, turmeric, and cayenne pepper. Stir well to combine.
- Add the canned tomatoes, including the juice, and the chickpeas. Stir well.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for about 20 minutes, until the flavors have melded together.
- Season with salt to taste.
- Serve the chana masala with a garnish of fresh cilantro.
