Chana Masala is a popular Indian dish made with chickpeas cooked in a flavorful tomato-based sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Water - 1/2 cup
- Cooking oil - 2 tablespoons
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Fresh cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Salt - To taste
- Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Coriander powder - 1 tablespoon
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Green chili - 1, finely chopped
- Tomatoes - 2 medium, chopped
- Ginger - 1-inch piece, grated
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1 large, finely chopped
- Chickpeas - 2 cups, cooked
Let's Get Started
- Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat.
- Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chili. Sauté for a minute.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and mushy.
- Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Add cooked chickpeas and water. Stir to combine.
- Cover the pan and simmer for 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
- Sprinkle garam masala and mix well.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro and drizzle with lemon juice.
- Serve hot with rice or naan bread.
