Champurrado
Champurrado is a traditional Mexican hot chocolate thickened with masa harina and flavored with cinnamon and vanilla.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Chocolate tablets (mexican chocolate) - 2 tablets
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Cinnamon sticks - 2
- Piloncillo (mexican brown sugar) - 1/2 cup, grated
- Milk - 2 cups
- Water - 2 cups
- Masa harina - 1/4 cup
Let's Get Started
- In a saucepan, whisk together the masa harina and water until well combined.
- Add the milk, piloncillo, cinnamon sticks, and vanilla extract to the saucepan.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring occasionally.
- Once the mixture is simmering, add the chocolate tablets and continue to stir until they are completely melted and the champurrado has thickened.
- Remove the cinnamon sticks from the champurrado.
- Serve hot in mugs and enjoy!
