Caruru
Caruru is a traditional Brazilian dish made with okra, dried shrimp, and palm oil. It's a rich, flavorful stew that's often served with rice and toasted nuts.

- Toasted nuts - For garnish
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Cilantro - 1/2 cup, chopped
- Red bell pepper - 1, chopped
- Tomatoes - 2, chopped
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Onions - 2, chopped
- Palm oil - 2 tablespoons
- Okra - 2 cups, sliced
- Dried shrimp - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- Soak the dried shrimp in warm water for 15 minutes, then drain and set aside.
- In a large pot, heat the palm oil over medium heat.
- Add the onions, garlic, tomatoes, and bell pepper and cook until softened, about 10 minutes.
- Add the okra and cook for another 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add the soaked shrimp, cilantro, salt, and pepper and stir to combine.
- Cover the pot and simmer for 30 minutes, until the okra is tender and the flavors are well combined.
- Serve the caruru hot, garnished with toasted nuts.
