Carne Guisada
Carne Guisada is a traditional Mexican beef stew made with tender beef, tomatoes, onions, and flavorful spices.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Flour - 2 tablespoons
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Paprika - 1 teaspoon
- Chili powder - 1 teaspoon
- Cumin - 1 teaspoon
- Beef broth - 2 cups
- Tomatoes - 2 large, diced
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1 large, chopped
- Beef stew meat - 2 pounds, cubed
Let's Get Started
- In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
- Add the beef stew meat and cook until browned on all sides.
- Remove the meat from the pot and set aside.
- In the same pot, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook until the onion is translucent.
- Add the diced tomatoes, beef broth, cumin, chili powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
- Return the browned beef stew meat to the pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low.
- Cover the pot and simmer for 2 hours, or until the beef is tender.
- In a small bowl, mix the flour with a little water to make a slurry.
- Stir the slurry into the pot to thicken the sauce. Cook for an additional 10 minutes.
- Garnish with chopped cilantro before serving.
- Serve the Carne Guisada hot with rice, tortillas, and your favorite toppings.
