Let's Get Started

  1. In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the beef stew meat and cook until browned on all sides.
  3. Remove the meat from the pot and set aside.
  4. In the same pot, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook until the onion is translucent.
  5. Add the diced tomatoes, beef broth, cumin, chili powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  6. Return the browned beef stew meat to the pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low.
  7. Cover the pot and simmer for 2 hours, or until the beef is tender.
  8. In a small bowl, mix the flour with a little water to make a slurry.
  9. Stir the slurry into the pot to thicken the sauce. Cook for an additional 10 minutes.
  10. Garnish with chopped cilantro before serving.
  11. Serve the Carne Guisada hot with rice, tortillas, and your favorite toppings.
