Braised Wheat Gluten
This is a traditional Asian dish, where wheat gluten is braised with a variety of vegetables and sauces for a flavorful, protein-rich meal.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Green onions - 2, chopped
- Carrots - 2, sliced
- Vegetable broth - 2 cups
- Star anise - 1
- Ginger - 1 inch piece, minced
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Wheat gluten - 200 grams
Let's Get Started
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add the garlic and ginger and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Add the wheat gluten and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.
- Add the soy sauce, sugar, star anise, and vegetable broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
- Add the carrots and cook until tender, about 10 minutes.
- Stir in the green onions and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Serve the braised wheat gluten hot, with rice if desired.
