Ingredients - Serves 4
- Green onions - 4, thinly sliced
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Warm water - 1 cup
- Active dry yeast - 1 packet
- All-purpose flour - 2 cups
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
- Hoisin sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Bok choy - 4 heads, chopped
- Pork belly - 1 pound, sliced
Let's Get Started
- In a large skillet, cook the pork belly slices over medium heat until crispy and browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the bok choy and sauté until wilted. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and sugar. Set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, yeast, and warm water. Stir until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a small circle.
- Brush each circle with vegetable oil and fold it in half. Place each folded circle on a small piece of parchment paper.
- Place the buns in a steamer basket and steam for 10-12 minutes, or until puffed and cooked through.
- To assemble the bao buns, open each steamed bun and fill it with a slice of pork belly, sautéed bok choy, and a drizzle of the sauce mixture.
- Garnish with sliced green onions and serve hot.
