Binagoongan
Binagoongan is a Filipino dish made with pork cooked in shrimp paste and served with vegetables.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Cooking oil - 2 tablespoons
- Black pepper - To taste
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Water - 1 cup
- Green chili peppers - 2 pieces, sliced
- Tomato - 1 medium, chopped
- Onion - 1 medium, chopped
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Shrimp paste - 3 tablespoons
- Pork belly - 500 grams, cubed
Let's Get Started
- Heat the cooking oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add the pork belly and cook until browned and crispy, about 8-10 minutes.
- Remove the pork belly from the pan and set aside.
- In the same pan, sauté the garlic, onion, and tomato until softened.
- Add the shrimp paste and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Return the pork belly to the pan and mix well with the shrimp paste mixture.
- Pour in the water and bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes or until the pork is tender.
- Add the green chili peppers, sugar, and black pepper. Stir well and cook for another 5 minutes.
- Serve hot with steamed rice and enjoy!
