Beijing Hot Pot
A traditional Chinese dish that allows everyone to cook their own selection of ingredients in a communal pot of simmering broth.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Green onions - 4, chopped
- Ginger - 1 piece, minced
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Sesame oil - 1/4 cup
- Soy sauce - 1/2 cup
- Chicken broth - 2 liters
- Noodles - 500 grams
- Bok choy - 200 grams
- Mushrooms - 200 grams, sliced
- Tofu - 1 block, cubed
- Shrimp - 500 grams, peeled and deveined
- Fish - 500 grams, filleted
- Chicken - 500 grams, thinly sliced
- Beef - 500 grams, thinly sliced
Let's Get Started
- Prepare all the ingredients by slicing the meats and vegetables, and setting them out on platters.
- In a large pot, bring the chicken broth to a boil.
- Add the soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and green onions to the broth.
- Reduce the heat to a simmer.
- Everyone can now start cooking their own ingredients in the pot. It's best to start with the meats, as they take longer to cook.
- Once the meats are cooked, you can start adding the vegetables and noodles.
- Keep the broth simmering and continue to cook and eat until all the ingredients are gone.
