Beef Pho
Beef pho is a traditional Vietnamese soup made with flavorful beef broth, rice noodles, and tender beef slices.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Hoisin sauce - To taste
- Sriracha sauce - To taste
- Lime - 1, cut into wedges
- Cilantro leaves - 1/2 cup
- Thai basil leaves - 1/2 cup
- Bean sprouts - 1 cup
- Rice noodles - 8 oz
- Beef sirloin - 12 oz, thinly sliced
- Cardamom pods - 3
- Cloves - 3
- Star anise - 2
- Cinnamon stick - 1
- Ginger - 2-inch piece, sliced
- Onion - 1 large, halved
- Beef bones - 2 lbs
Let's Get Started
- In a large pot, add the beef bones, onion, ginger, cinnamon stick, star anise, cloves, and cardamom pods.
- Cover with water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 2-3 hours, skimming off any impurities that rise to the surface.
- Strain the broth and discard the solids. Return the broth to the pot.
- Cook the rice noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a separate pot, bring water to a boil and blanch the bean sprouts for 1 minute. Drain and set aside.
- Divide the cooked rice noodles among serving bowls. Top with beef slices.
- Pour the hot broth over the noodles and beef, ensuring they are fully submerged.
- Serve the beef pho with bean sprouts, Thai basil leaves, cilantro leaves, lime wedges, sriracha sauce, and hoisin sauce on the side.
