Balti Curry
Balti curry is a flavorful and aromatic dish originating from the Baltistan region. It is made with a blend of spices, meat, and vegetables.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Fresh cilantro - For garnish
- Salt - To taste
- Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
- Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
- Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon
- Balti curry paste - 3 tablespoons
- Chicken or lamb - 500g, diced
- Bell peppers - 2, sliced
- Tomatoes - 2 medium, chopped
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1 large, finely chopped
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
Let's Get Started
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and cook until golden brown, about 5 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Add the diced chicken or lamb to the pan and cook until browned on all sides.
- Add the balti curry paste, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and garam masala. Stir well to coat the meat.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and sliced bell peppers to the pan. Cook for 5 minutes, until the vegetables start to soften.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and simmer for 20 minutes, or until the meat is cooked through and tender.
- Season with salt to taste.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
- Serve hot with rice or naan bread.
