Baguette
A classic French baguette with a crispy crust and soft interior.
Ingredients - Serves 2
- Salt - 1 1/2 teaspoons
- Active dry yeast - 2 1/4 teaspoons
- Water - 1 1/2 cups
- All-purpose flour - 3 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture.
- Stir the mixture until a dough forms, then transfer it to a floured surface.
- Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Punch down the dough to release any air bubbles, then shape it into a long baguette shape.
- Place the shaped dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Make diagonal slashes on the top of the dough with a sharp knife.
- Bake the baguette in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
