- Orange zest - 1 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 2 tablespoons
- Granulated sugar - 1/2 cup
- Unsalted butter - 1/2 cup
- Sliced almonds - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the sugar and stir until dissolved.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the sliced almonds, flour, orange zest, and vanilla extract.
- Drop spoonfuls of the batter onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each cookie as they will spread.
- Using the back of a spoon, flatten and spread the batter into thin rounds.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let the florentines cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Optional: Once the florentines are cooled, drizzle melted dark chocolate over the top for added flavor and decoration.
- Allow the chocolate to set before serving.
