Ingredients - Serves 12

Let's Get Started

  1. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add sugar, salt, eggs, shortening, and half of the flour. Beat until smooth.
  2. Mix in remaining flour until smooth. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  3. Turn dough out onto a floured surface. Roll out to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with a floured doughnut cutter.
  4. Let doughnuts sit out to rise again until double. Cover loosely with a cloth.
  5. Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large pot to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Slide doughnuts into the hot oil using a wide spatula. Turn doughnuts over as they rise to the surface.
  6. Fry doughnuts on each side until golden brown. Remove from hot oil, to drain on a wire rack.
  7. Inject each doughnut with raspberry jelly using a pastry syringe.
  8. Spread chocolate frosting on top of each doughnut.
  9. Insert a pretzel stick into the top of each doughnut.
