Voodoo Doughnut
A sweet and delicious doughnut filled with raspberry jelly, topped with chocolate frosting and a pretzel stake.
Ingredients - Serves 12
- Pretzel sticks - 12
- Chocolate frosting - 1 cup
- Raspberry jelly - 1 cup
- All-purpose flour - 4 cups
- Shortening - 1/3 cup
- Eggs - 2
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1/2 cup
- Warm water - 1 cup
- Active dry yeast - 1 packet
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add sugar, salt, eggs, shortening, and half of the flour. Beat until smooth.
- Mix in remaining flour until smooth. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
- Turn dough out onto a floured surface. Roll out to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with a floured doughnut cutter.
- Let doughnuts sit out to rise again until double. Cover loosely with a cloth.
- Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large pot to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Slide doughnuts into the hot oil using a wide spatula. Turn doughnuts over as they rise to the surface.
- Fry doughnuts on each side until golden brown. Remove from hot oil, to drain on a wire rack.
- Inject each doughnut with raspberry jelly using a pastry syringe.
- Spread chocolate frosting on top of each doughnut.
- Insert a pretzel stick into the top of each doughnut.
