Turron de Alicante
Turron de Alicante is a traditional Spanish nougat made with almonds and honey. It's a popular treat during the Christmas season.
Ingredients - Serves 10
- Wafer paper - 2 sheets
- Almonds - 2 cups, toasted and whole
- Egg white - 1
- Sugar - 1/2 cup
- Honey - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- In a saucepan, combine the honey and sugar. Heat over medium heat until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg white until stiff peaks form.
- Slowly pour the hot honey mixture into the egg white, while continuously beating.
- Continue to beat the mixture until it becomes thick and glossy.
- Fold in the toasted almonds.
- Line a baking dish with one sheet of wafer paper.
- Pour the almond mixture into the dish and spread it evenly.
- Cover the mixture with the second sheet of wafer paper and press down firmly.
- Let the turron cool completely before cutting it into squares.
