Toucinho Do Céu
Toucinho do Céu is a traditional Portuguese dessert made with sugar, almonds, and egg yolks. Its name translates to 'Bacon from Heaven', but don't worry, there's no bacon involved!
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Unsalted butter - 1/2 cup, melted
- Egg yolks - 12
- Almonds - 1 cup, ground
- Water - 1 cup
- Sugar - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a round cake pan.
- In a saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the ground almonds.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg yolks until they are light and fluffy.
- Gradually add the almond mixture to the egg yolks, stirring constantly.
- Stir in the melted butter.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared cake pan.
- Bake for 45 minutes, or until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
