Torta Setteveli
Torta Setteveli, also known as Seven Veils Cake, is a delicious and decadent chocolate and hazelnut cake from Palermo, Sicily. It's named after the seven layers or 'veils' that make up the cake.
Ingredients - Serves 12
- Cocoa powder - 2 tablespoons
- Milk chocolate - 200g
- Whipping cream - 500ml
- Hazelnuts - 200g, toasted and ground
- Flour - 200g
- Eggs - 4
- Sugar - 200g
- Butter - 200g
- Dark chocolate - 200g
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and flour a 23cm (9 inch) cake tin.
- Melt the dark chocolate and butter together in a double boiler. Once melted, remove from the heat and add the sugar, stirring until dissolved.
- Beat the eggs into the chocolate mixture one at a time, followed by the flour. Stir in the ground hazelnuts.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake tin and bake for about 40 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean.
- While the cake is cooling, make the chocolate cream by heating the whipping cream in a saucepan until hot but not boiling. Remove from the heat and stir in the milk chocolate until melted and smooth.
- Cut the cooled cake horizontally into seven equal layers. Spread a layer of chocolate cream between each layer as you stack them back together.
- Dust the top of the cake with the cocoa powder before serving.
